Are the exteriors waterproof?
We do our best to assemble your Backyard Bungalow to not leak. Our roofs contain a waterproof underlayment, and the foundation is coated with a wood rot and termite treatment. However, the doors are not completely watertight, and a wind driven rain may bring a trickle of water in the house. Plexiglas sheeting may be added to your playhouse at no charge if requested to mitigate leaking.
Note: We highly recommend a cement foundation to mitigate wood rotting. The moisture and earth may rot away the foundation of the playhouse just like it would a normal house. |
Does my Backyard Bungalow require a building permit?
All municipalities have different ordinances regarding backyard structures. Because the houses are not anchored to the ground and can be disassembled and moved at any time, most municipalities view the houses as a temporary structure not requiring a building permit. However, we recommend checking with your local building inspector and homeowner’s association before installation.
Can my Backyard Bungalow be moved?
The playhouses can be disassembled and moved across the yard or across the country at any time. Houses may be moved in one piece with the appropriate equipment, however we recommend removing the roof prior to relocation.
Note: We strongly recommend using mechanical equipment to move the playhouse. |
Can electricity be added?
We fit all of our playhouses with solar/battery powered lighting to increase mobility and flexibility of placement. Because of different codes and requirements in various areas of the country, a registered electrician is recommended for installation of anything of electrical nature prior to installation.
What kind of maintenance is recommended?
We recommend cleaning all surfaces one to two times per year with a mild detergent and/or bleach (to kill mildew) solution. The house will require repainting/re-staining in approximately 5-7 years, depending on climate.
How is my Backyard Bungalow delivered?
The house arrives by truck assembled in two pieces. Offloading of the playhouse is the responsibility of Backyard Bungalows to the front yard of the house. It is the responsibility of the owner to move the house to their desired location if it is not near the delivery point. Moving the house may require a fork lift or crane.
Note: Backyard Bungalows may be able to assist in moving the playhouse to its final location for an additional fee. |
How long until I receive my Backyard Bungalow?
Lead time varies with the season and the amount of customers in the queue. Generally, a single playhouse requires 2-4 weeks to build. If a specific date is requested which is earlier than the specified lead time, please check with Backyard Bungalows. We can sometime accommodate rush orders (expedited fee may apply. Multiple house orders and upgrades/special requests may also require additional lead times.
